For all visa categories, the Australian administration’s Department of Home Affairs recognises IELTS as proof of English language competency. In addition, IELTS is the only exam that is recognised by all immigration authorities in Australia.

You may be required to demonstrate a grasp of English to migrate to Australia. To verify this, the Department of Home Affairs may request that you present proof of completion of an official language exam, such as IELTS. You may also be required to demonstrate that you have obtained the minimum scores required for your visa three years before your application.

When migrating to Australia and applying for a visa, you may encounter varying degrees of linguistic skill. There is functional English and vocational English, for example. However, passable English, fluent English, and even outstanding English are all acceptable. The IELTS score for each of these levels varies.
